Step 1: What are you thinking about yourself?
brain
The first part of the solution is inside you
The last line from the movie “Being There” was: “Life is a state of mind.” This is a great truth. Your life is created from your state of mind. That means that your current situation has occurred because of your past state of mind, or mindset. And the good news is…that also means that you can change your future by changing your current mindset!
You have probably heard of the Law of Attraction. If you haven’t, the Law of Attraction, simply stated, is that your thoughts create what you focus your attention on. Therefore, according to this law, you’re the creator of everything that occurs in your life. This is because you project a vibration or energy field, like a radio wave projected by an antenna. And that vibration attracts things that have the same vibration.
There are many books, tapes and programs on the market that talk about the Law of Attraction and how to apply it. Many of them get you to say affirmations, create visualizations, or release past emotions. These are all very good things to do. But for a lot of people they simply don’t work well enough.
WHY is that?
Because they skipped an important step!
What is that missing step? Before you do these things you need to take a step backward and take a closer look at what you are thinking about yourself. The important missing step is self-esteem!
The journey to wealth begins by improving your self-worth and self-esteem. How do you feel about yourself? Do you feel like you deserve to be rich? If so, why aren’t you? If not, why not?
* Do you want to enjoy your life?
* Wouldn’t you like to live prosperously?
* Wouldn’t you like to not have to worry about money or the future?
Well, the first part of the puzzle is what you are thinking about yourself.
The only way you can feel worthy of the riches you want is to think highly enough of yourself to feel that you deserve them. Your self-image has to be on the same vibratory level as what you want to attract. Only when you begin to work on developing your self-esteem will you be able to attract the wealth you want.
Improving your self-esteem takes time and focus, but accomplishing it can be your most rewarding activity, because it is the basis for all other lasting achievements.
What is your self-esteem quotient? Whatever it is, I’ll wager it could use some improvement.
Let’s see where you stand. On a scale from one to ten, ten being, “ I love myself unconditionally and am attracting my highest good”, and one being, “I’m an utter failure in every area of my life”, where do you fall?
OK. Now that you have that number we can proceed to look at five powerful techniques to improve your self-esteem and raise your self-esteem quotient.
Attention!
1 - Attention
Throughout this report I talk about the importance of your attention. Your thoughts reflect what you are putting your attention on.
Attention is your most important tool for raising your self-esteem, and it’s as crucial as a brush to a painter or a wrench to a mechanic. You can use your attention to recreate your life. In order to raise your self-esteem, you start by changing your beliefs.
Your most basic belief system is the one you hold about yourself. That was reflected in your self-esteem quotient. What beliefs do you have about yourself?
* Do you think you are someone who has made lots of mistakes, who can’t seem to achieve success, who is a failure?
* Or do you see yourself as someone who is still in progress, who is capable of meeting life’s challenges, who has made many achievements?
It doesn’t matter which one of those questions you answered “yes” to, and I want to show you why: Everyone has past failures and past successes. It’s just a matter of what you are putting your attention on.
Are you putting the majority of your attention on your failures or your successes? You can focus on your failures or your successes, but whichever one you put the majority of your attention on determines your beliefs about yourself. Changing your focus is just a matter of breaking an old habit pattern and forming a new one.
You can influence your unconscious thoughts by managing your conscious thoughts. Take a sheet of paper and write down all of the things you think are positive about you, and on another sheet all of the things negative about you.
Then on the positive sheet write down as many things as you can think of that you would consider your achievements, and on the negative sheet all those things you think of as your failures.
Now throw away the negative sheet. (That was just to bring those things to your attention and hopefully show you that there are more positive ones than negative ones.) Now read out loud the positive sheet every day for the next week.
This exercise will reinforce a new belief system about yourself. And it is going to shift your conscious thoughts to the positive, as well as the unconscious ones.
When you can keep the majority of your attention on the positive side, you will like yourself more and more. Liking yourself leads to accepting yourself which results in high self-esteem.
The reason you want high self-esteem is so you feel like you deserve the very best. When you feel worthy of the best, you feel worthy of your desires. And when you feel worthy of your desires, you start attracting them.
Note: Remember that throughout the process of self-improvement it is important to accept yourself as you are. Sure there are things you may want to change but you are an evolving being and never static. As things move along make sure to accept yourself as you are, and the improvements will come much easier.
2- Moods
Now that you’ve got yourself thinking going in a more positive direction, let’s talk about the moods of self-esteem. Everything looks different depending on your mood. You have probably noticed that the antics of kids are cute when you are in a high mood and irritating when you are in a low mood.
little girl
Just as your moods go up and down, so does your self-esteem. It may be high some days and low other days. This is the normal fluctuation of it. When you are in a positive state, you feel good about yourself, and when you are in a negative state you feel bad about yourself.
The best thing to deal with a bad mood is to recognize when you are feeling negative and not take anything you think about yourself seriously. (Or beat yourself up for it either!) You can either do something to put yourself in a good mood, or wait until one returns.
Now, how did you get in that negative mood in the first place? You were thinking about something that made you feel bad. So stop thinking that thought and shift your awareness to something that makes you feel good.
The shift occurs when you move your attention. The goal is to keep yourself in a positive state as much as possible. And when you slip out of it, to bounce back to it quickly and easily.
It took me years to realize that I was not a victim of my moods, and that I could actually do something about them. But it is a conscious choice. Don’t take the “easy way out” and wallow in that bad mood. For example, I noticed that no matter how bad I felt, the feeling dissipated and was replaced by a new one whenever I started my artwork. It changed my mood immediately!
If you want to change your financial situation and your life, you are going to have to stretch yourself a bit, and choose your thoughts. It won’t always be easy, but it will be rewarding. The reward will be that you are becoming a person that can attract wealth.
Note: It is interesting to note that men usually have different needs from women when pulling themselves out of a bad mood. Men need to retreat and be by themselves for a while. Women need to express themselves by saying how they feel, either through talking to someone, writing or some other creative outlet.
3- Self-talk
From our thoughts come our words. What do you say to yourself? Are you telling yourself the good things about you or the bad things? Let’s take a look at the words you say to yourself or self-talk.
What you say to yourself is a direct result of your self-esteem quotient. And what you say to yourself when you are feeling good about yourself, will be different from what you say to yourself when you are feeling bad about yourself.
An important exercise is to spend a day writing down everything you say to yourself about yourself. For example, when you make a mistake do you say “You idiot!” or “That’s alright. Let’s try that again!” The list should be an eye-opener.
Next, try to catch yourself when you say something negative about yourself, and write it down. Now look at what you have written and ask yourself, “Is this really true?” More often than not, it won’t be. You were probably just in a bad mood and took yourself seriously. Then, tell yourself something good about yourself. This process is an effective method for retraining your mind to shift to the positive side of things.
The more you can catch yourself, interrupt the old habit pattern, and give yourself a positive reinforcement, the faster you will start achieving your goals. This shows the universe that you really are taking charge of your life by changing your behavior, and the universe will respond!

4- Positive thinking
You have probably read lots of books about positive thinking, but I want to tell you that positive thinking needs to be applied to your own internal thoughts about yourself first. When you do this correctly, it will override negative thinking, and eventually become automatic.
The ultimate goal in positive thinking is to feel good most of the time.
Why is it important to feel good?
When you are feeling good, you are able to think more clearly and calmly, and you are more able to access your inner wisdom, creativity, and common sense. That’s why you only want to make important decisions when you are feeling positive.
Here’s one way that absolutely works! You can program your day from the time you wake up to be a positive one by saying upon rising, “I’m having a great day!”
When you start each day with “I’m having a great day!” your subconscious mind begins to create situations for you to make it a great day.
When something doesn’t go as smoothly as you would like, just say it again. Say if off and on throughout the day. More and more, you automatically will keep your attention on the positive things that happen to you each day. And, more and more, you will attract positive things to you.
We all have many things that happen to us everyday. Our perception (or brain interpretation) is what determines whether we deem them positive or negative. The same situation can be interpreted differently by two different people, or differently by the same person in different moods. You’ve heard this before as, “Is the glass half-full or half-empty?” A positive person will say it’s full.
One person will look at a financial crisis as a disaster and another person will look at it as an opportunity.
For example, when I started practicing these methods presented here, I was able to switch my thinking from “how horrible my financial situation was” to “I’m going to use this situation as my motivation to find a way to make a lot of money, and change my life forever.” And, as a consequence, I found a business opportunity that was more enjoyable and rewarding than any other work I had done previously.
When you program your mind to constantly put your attention on what is happening that is positive, the negative things tend to be forgotten and therefore, you attract fewer negative things into your life. The important thing is what you are emphasizing.
“If you want to change anything in your life,
you first have to change the way you think.” –Devlyn Steele, “Tools to Life”
When you do this exercise of saying, “I’m having a great day!” you will start to notice nice little things happening that you might not have noticed before. That’s because your mind is now looking for ways to prove right the fact that you are having a great day. And it is attracting them for you.
This is not mood-making or denial, it’s simply making the majority of your attention focus on those things that make you feel good, for your own good! Doing this will keep you attracting more of the things that you want so you can have a great day every day! That’s really what we all want, isn’t it?
5- Self-Treatment
OK, so now you are thinking about yourself and your environment positively most of the time, and catching yourself when you aren’t. You are telling yourself KIND WORDS about yourself to create good feelings about yourself.
Thought-Words-Actions
From words come actions. How are you treating yourself? Are you treating yourself with respect, honor and dignity? Do you believe that you deserve to be wealthy? Do you have faith in your ability to attract more money into your life?
Let’s talk a little bit about the things you can do to treat yourself the way you should be treating yourself. You will soon see that this will have a direct effect on how well you can attract your desires, as well as the size of your bank account.
As you are improving your perception about yourself by reminding yourself of all the great things you are and do every day, you can reward yourself in many little ways.
For example, you just finished cleaning the house, so you give yourself a nice hot bath or massage; or you complete a section of a big project, so you enjoy dinner at your favorite restaurant or go to a ball game.
Another way to treat yourself well and boost your self-image could be to upgrade your wardrobe, or pick a room in your house and do something to make it nicer. Anything that makes you feel good!
Note: Please note that the reward must be proportionate to the accomplishment, and also be nourishing to you.
I rewarded myself once with a box of one dozen donuts, and ended up getting sick for a week. Don’t do that! By “proportionate”, I mean don’t go out and buy a new $5000 mink coat or a $5000 boat when you only made an extra $500 that month. Wait until you’ve have made an extra $20,000!
The idea is to find something you can do for yourself to make life easier or better. By doing something for yourself you are building a new belief system about yourself—that you care about yourself because you like yourself. This is also another way to raise your self-esteem quotient.
